Recreation Reserve
DEECA land managed by locals for locals
The Shelford Recreation Reserve Committee of Management (Rec Res CoM) is an incorporated body consisting of a group of residents who have been elected by the community and accepted by the Victorian Department of Energy, Environment, and Climate Action (DEECA). The committee serves three-year terms, with elections advertised in advance. Rec Res CoM meeting dates are shown on the Community Calendar and people are encouraged to attend.
The Rec Res CoM is responsible for the management of a 3.3 Ha (8.2 Acres) parcel of land (Reserve ID 0703675) and associated improvements within the area known locally as the Shelford Common.
Community-managed facilities include:
-
Cricket oval
-
Clubrooms and pavilion
-
Tennis and basketball courts
The aim is to maintain and maximise the value these great assets contribute to the community.

Although on the Recreation Reserve land, the Golden Plains Shire Council maintains:
-
Free electric BBQs
-
Public toilets.

Working with Golden Plains Shire Council and DEECA a Precinct Plan has been developed as an aspirational vision of what the space could provide for residents and visitors. This Master Plan sits under the broader Shelford Community Plan and can be used for advocacy and to seek funding.

The committee negotiates licences to legally ensure the long-term security of important community groups and activities - namely the Cricket Club and the Duck Race.
