Shelford's regular events

Shelford holds a number of events throughout the year, and everyone is welcome.

Australia Day event

Australia Day

26th January

Ceremony and breakfast to commemorate the day.

Ceremony held at the flagpole, with a guest speaker describing what Australia means to them. This is followed by a cooked breakfast, with its location advised year by year. Arranged by the Progress Association.

Duck Race

Last Sunday in February

By far our biggest event, the Shelford Duck Race & Family Fun Day attracts thousands of patrons from nearby towns and across the state. See the Duck Race page for details.

Dachshund Derby

First Sunday in March

Although not actually a Shelford event, it's local, it involves locals, and it's a fun day out. See their Facebook page.

25th April

Ceremony and breakfast to commemorate this special day.

Ceremony held at the flagpole, run by our local Inverleigh RSL sub-branch. This is followed by a cooked breakfast, with its location advised year by year. Arranged by the Hall Committee.

School Awards Night

Mid December

Shelford Primary School finishes each year with an Awards night. This event showcases the year that was and celebrates our year 6 students as they transition into High School.  This event is held at the school and begins at 5.30pm with a BBQ. This is followed at 6.30pm with our awards, speeches and presentations.

   

Community members and students and families, past and present are all invited!​

End of year event poster

Christmas/End of Year

Early December

Casual get-together to mark the end of a year. Usually a free BBQ, with people asked to BYO drinks, chair, and Christmas treats to share. Held at the Recreation Reserve BBQs, or the Community Garden. Arranged by the Progress Association.

Santa on a fire truck

Santa Run

Late December

Santa jumps on the fire truck and gets the great volunteers to drive him around a publicised route, handing out lolly bags wherever he finds kids waving him down. Arranged with the help of the CFA Fire Brigade.

Various dates

The Shelford Cricket Club is of course most active during summer, with the club rooms open and visitors welcome at training evenings and game days, with the bar open and often with meals served.
